Drugs and guns 'dangerous mix,' judge warns

Defence lawyer Jesse Dostal represented Kory Poreba, who was sentenced to three years in prison for possession of a prohibited weapon after being found in a trailer with a modified shotgun and drugs. Dostal highlighted Poreba's difficult past, including addiction and a rough childhood marked by violence and drug use, while noting his clean record regarding weapons and violent crimes until recently. Emphasizing Poreba’s early guilty plea and desire to change, Dostal agreed with the Crown on the sentence, which accounted for time already served. Justice Robert Gee urged Poreba to use his time in prison to reconsider his path and make positive changes.
